Welcome to the Home Page of the Toronto Canada-China Friendship Association! We are a member of the Federation of Canada- China Friendship Associations. Our aims as recorded in the Federation's constitution are:

- To promote friendship between the people of Canada and China by fostering mutual understanding and appreciation of each other's society, their historical development and their functioning social and economic institutions.
- To promote cultural, educational, scientific, athletic and other exchanges between the Canadian and Chinese people.



Our activities include:
- public meetings: speakers, panel discussions, films
- cultural and social events: banquets, jiaozi (Chinese dumpling) parties
- mentoring and hospitality: English classes, hosting visitors from China
- publication of TCCFA Newsletter
- Gourmet Dinners
- Learning Tours to China

TCCFA NEWS

On Mar 3 at 7:00 PM, we present Professor Emeritus Stevan Harrell's Zoom Talk entitled Chinese Prometheans (Dams).

Happy 2024! Our first event for the year will be our Annual Jiaozi Party which will take place on Saturday, January 27 to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Our Annual Fall Banquet returns on Monday, October 2 at Asian Legend Restaurant. Hope to see you there!

Our next presentation will take place on September 17, 2023 when Yan Li will discuss her interpretation of the close relations between the Western missionaries and the modern Chinese society, based on years of her research and publication.

TCCFA members have been attending the Chinese Language Exhibit at the Glendon Gallery. Thanks to the Gallery for a very informative exhibit!

The TCCFA 2022-2023 AGM Meeting and Restaurant will take place on May 15, 2023 at the Asian Legend Restaurant, 900 Don Mills Road between Eglinton Avenue East and Lawrence Avenue East. This was the location of the 2019 TCCFA AGM Meeting.

Our next Zoom meeting will be on Sunday, April 23 and will start at 7pm. Dr. Alfred Chan will speak about the book he wrote on the life of Xi Jinping.

We had an Invitation to a November 6th Zoom Talk where TCCFA member Kyle Joliffe spoke about Chinese Restaurant Post Cards. You can see the presentation at our Highlights page.

The TCCFA Annual Banquet will be returning on Monday, October 3! The Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant Penthouse in downtown Toronto has cordially agreed to provide a sumptuous meal.

We have an invitation to a September 11, 2022 TCCFA Zoom Talk entitled 'Confucius and Lao Zi for Today'.

May 15th Zoom Talk: The Toronto Canada-China Friendship Association was pleased to be able to offer a presentation by Dr. You-Zhi Tang. You can see a slideshow at the Event Highlights page.

Canada-China Focus presents: Canada at a Crossroads on China “Work Together or Perish Together” featuring Noam Chomsky on February 4, 2022. See the Events page for details.

We are pleased to be able to offer a ZOOM presentation by Dr. Xiaolin Wei entitled "Discussion of implementation science and how this is utilized in clinical trials in AMR, TB, Diabetes and Covid?" on February 6, 2022.

The Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries will hold a webinar celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Tuesday morning, May 11, 9:30 a.m. (Beijing time).

We have two ZOOM speakers for April and May. On Sunday, April 25, Sharon Wong from Osgoode Law School will talk on Current Application of AI in the legal industry and its challenges. On Sunday, May 30. Dr. Yuan Zhang from McMaster will talk on Covid -19 Vaccine

2021 marks the Year of the Ox in Chinese astrology and begins on February 12, the first day of Chinese New Year. We hope everyone is able to mark the occasion both happily and safely.

We are presenting a Webinar on December 3 commemorating the 130th anniversary of the birth of Norman Bethune. Check the Events page for details.

We were pleased to present a Webinar with Dr. Wen-chien Cheng, who is the Louise Hawley Stone Chair of Chinese Arts at the Royal Ontario Musuem on Sunday, November 22. Thanks to those who heard the presentation 'Remembering the Ancestors: Ancestor Portraits and Prints in Traditional Chinese Households'.

We hope everyone is staying safe! Our next event will be a Webinar on Sunday, October 25 at 7:30 pm with Jeff Zhang, Director, Ontario Chapter of the Canada China Business Council.

We are thank Emily Mo, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, who joined us on Sunday, March 1 (2:00 pm) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

We thank Scott Davidson for his wonderful presentation on Sunday, December 2 at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).. Scott Davidson is the Parks Canada Site Manager at the Bethune Memorial House in Gravenhurst.

We thank Yan Li for her wonderful presentation on Sunday, November 10, 2:00 pm at OISE, Room 5150 (Bloor and St. George). Yan Li is Director of the Confucius Institute at the Renison University College, University of Waterloo (since 2007), and Coordinator of the Chinese program at the Dept. of Culture & Language Studies.

On Monday, October 7th, we will be holding our Annual Banquet this year at Asian Legend restaurant, 900 Don Mills Road, 6:30 pm cash bar; 7:00pm dinner, lots of free parking. Hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Dim Sum King Restaurant. Be sure to stay tuned for more wonderful events taking place for the 2019/2020 season. Have a great summer!

We thank Sean Chen will for his very entertaining presentation 'Eating through the Garden of Contentment' on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 2;00 p.m. It was a very wonderful story behind the translation and what things one can learn about Chinese gastronomy and Chinese cuisine.

On Sunday, March 3 at OISE, we were pleased to present Dr. Shen Chen, Vice President and Senior Curator, Royal Ontario Museum. He is the Bishop White Chair and is responsible for research and management of nearly one million of the museum’s renowned collection of art and culture.

We thank everyone who attended our annual Jiaozi Party on Saturday, February 9, once again at Downsview United Church. It was a wonderful way to usher in the Year of the Pig!

On Sunday, November 18, Professor Chef Leo Chan spoke about the art and culture of regional Chinese cuisine in his presentation A Culinary Journey Through Toronto Chinatown. We thank everyone who attended.

Our meeting on Sunday, October 28, at OISE was unfortunately cancelled. The Doug Ford government abruptly cancelled three university campuses, including York University’s Markham Centre campus. The Markham Campus was to have been the subject of Dr. Rui Wang’s talk.

TCCFA's 2018/19 season opened with our Annual Fall Banquet at Asian Legend restaurant. The new Consul-General Han Tao attended our Banquet and we were deeply pleased and honoured by his acceptance.

The TCCFA thanks everyone who came to listen to Dr. Shiu Loon Kong and his presentation 'Canada’s Multiculturalism and China’s Confucianism'. This event took place on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.

On Sunday, May 27 at OISE (Room 5150, 2:00 pm), Professor Bob Adamson gave a very insightful presentation on the status of the English language within social, economic and political contexts in China from a historical perspective. We thank everyone who came out to attend this informative seminar!
